This week in Band 9/10 - 14

2018-2019 is off to a great start for the Walker Band

Beginners have selected their instruments and are in the process of acquiring an instrument to play.  Varsity and Non-Varsity bands have begun after school section rehearsals.  All of our band members have access to lessons starting later this week.  Band Booster parents have begun planning ways to support the band at our events.  Events can be seen on the Band Calendar.

A quality instrument will set your student up for success!

Acquiring and instrument can be done one of three ways:  Check out a school instrument for a modest fee, or Rent to own an instrument from a trustworthy music store, or purchase an instrument.  When purchasing an instrument please consult the list of recommended brands and models before spending your money.  In order to have a successful year your student needs to have access to a quality instrument.  Contact a band director if you have questions about acquiring an instrument for your child.

Afternoon Section Rehearsals required each week for Varsity and Non-Varsity Band Students.
Section rehearsals are from 3:45 - 4:45 according to the schedule below.

Tuesdays - Flutes
Wednesdays - Brass and Percussion
Thursdays - Woodwinds

Students that are involved in other after-school programs have been excused by their coaches and are expected to be at band sectionals on the one day of their section rehearsal.

Band Booster Volunteers make everything possible!

Parent volunteers make all our events possible.  We can't do it without you - literally.  District policy requires 1 adult chaperon for every 10 students on a field trip.  We can't do the things we hope to without parent volunteers/chaperons.  Please follow the link below to sign up and be an approved volunteer!

Sign your student up for lessons

We have the great pleasure of having Mr. Art Osborne teach lessons this year at Walker.  Mr. Osborne was the Assistant band director at Walker for 10 years.  He is a professional woodwind artist who toured the world as a performer and played for Doc Severinsen, Gladys Knight, Smoky Robinson and many more.  Mr. Osborne will teach lessons in groups of 3 to 5 students.  Lessons will be taught once per week.  The fee for group lessons is only $5.00 per lesson per student, payable to Mr. Osborne on the day of your child’s lesson.  Click on the lessons tab, fill out and print the form and send it in to set a weekly appointment for lessons.
