This Week in Band!  Sept 20, 2013

Advanced Band has their first game this week!!!  Tuesday Sept. 24

• This performance is a Project Grade for 7th and 8th Grade Advanced students and is a required part of the class.
• Parent Volunteers are needed on Tuesday to help pick up the pizza in the afternoon for the students and chaperon the event
• Students should bring $5 on Monday if they want to order pizza for Tuesday.  Otherwise they should bring a sack lunch for the evening.

EVENT: Advanced band performs at football game.  Walker vs Franklin

TIME: 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM

LOCATION: Franklin Stadium

DETAILS: Walker advanced band performs at the Walker vs Franklin football game. 4:00 - rehearse in the band hall 5:00 - serve pizza to students 6:00 - load busses and depart for Franklin stadium 6:30 - 8:30 Performance in the stands 8:30 - load busses and return to Walker 9:00 - Pick up your students by the Walker Bandroom (SouthEast corner of the building by the baseball field) Chaperons needed to serve dinner, ride busses and hand out bottled water in the stands

Beginning Band students have checked out their instruments and are learning to make their first sounds.

• Students will be working in class for another week to learn the fundamentals and will start bringing instruments home on Sept 20th
• If your student hasn't checked an instrument out yet there is still time and we have plenty of instruments left except for saxophones (those have all been checked out).
• Beginning band students will wear their new Band Shirt that is paid for with the "Supply Fee" and a pair of Khaki shorts or pants for all performances this year

• For most of our performances this semester the students will wear their new Band Shirt that is paid for with the "Supply Fee" and a pair of Khaki shorts or pants.
• Later on (December) when we have concerts Advanced band students will wear a "Dress Black" outfit.  Boys - Long Sleeve black dress shirt, Black dress pants and Black shoes and socks.  Ties and dress jacket is optional.  Girls - Black Dress (skirt MUST be knee length or longer), black skirt and blouse (skirt must be knee length or longer) or a black dress pants outfit

Band Fees

• There are two fees each band member pays each year.  We never want money to keep a student from being in band.  
• $25 for and instrument fee, and
• $25 for a supplies fee
• There are many ways we can accommodate the paying of the fees.  You can:
• Pay $50 all at once
• Pay two payments of $25 each, or
• Pay five payments of $10 each

Welcome Back to School!

Welcome Back to School and to Band!

We had a great first week of Band class with many returning students and record number beginning students this year!

• Band Student Handbooks were distributed and registration forms should be turned in by now.

• Advanced students have been checking out instruments already and playing in class.

• Beginning students have been exploring and trying out instruments and are beginning to decide what instrument they will play this year

• All Students may begin turning in their instrument check out forms and band fees for the year

• Checks, cash or money orders are acceptable

• Checks should be made out to E.D. Walker Middle School

• Fees for every band student for the year are a $25 instrument fee and a $25 Supply fee for a total of $50

• Fees can be paid all at once or can be broken into two payments

• We have record numbers of students in the band this year but there are many students that requested band and were not placed in a band class.
